9/21/2023 0 Comments Dragons lair 3 arcade ratings![]() Basically, then: Laserdiscs are dead and players are dead. If you're able to find a replacement disc, it can cost as much as $500 (for a Dragon's Lair Limited Edition), and no facility is making new ones. Alternatively, they might show so many artifacts that the game looks awful. Discs can oxidize over time from scratching and eventually refuse to play. This has stretched these games' lives even further, but inevitably even the newer players will become scarce. In fact, a gent named Shaun Wood created a special card called Merlin that enables game owners to replace laserdisc players in the game with newer models. Players can be fixed, to a point, but eventually there simply won't be any left, as the moving parts are doomed to fail and replacements no longer exist. Laserdisc game owners today have several major problems to overcome to keep the games running, including laser rot and failing player parts. To understand why we even need Dexter to replace the original hardware, first we have to discuss its failings. ![]() For $359, you get an updatable solid-state replacement for your ancient and failing laser player. Fast-forward 30 years and this is where the Dexter laserdisc replacement joins our story: Dexter attempts to solve a number of laserdisc-game issues with modern hardware by completely removing the need to have a laserdisc player in your machine. Cinematronics even offered a satellite monitor for the top of the game so that more onlookers could follow along with other people's gameplay.īut the game had problems from the get-go - chief among them was the unreliable home-use Pioneer PR-7820 laserdisc player and later, the LD-V1000. ![]() It wasn't unusual to see it situated at the entrance of an arcade, surrounded by a crowd that spilled out of the front doors. It quickly became an instant star in any arcade that paid $4,200 (or more) for a Dragon's Lair cabinet. It was a pioneer game, an animated laserdisc title drawn by veteran Disney animator Don Bluth that demanded not one but two of my hard-earned quarters to play. In 1983 Cinematronics found its solution in the form of Dragon's Lair.

9/21/2023 0 Comments Nicks billiards chicago![]() I used to come here all the time when ditching hs and shooting pool for hours on end. And not the charming hole in the wall you stumble upon once in a while kinda place. What is with the other 2 reviews? This place is a hole. If your looking for a nice place to shoot some pool. My experience at nicks was very enjoyable. I had to order more wings… LOL…But with everything being said. ![]() Which gave this place a very hangout neighborhood vibe. While I was ordering I had a chance to get to know some of the regulars that hang out there and they were cracking jokes and friendly. So I checked the menu and ordered the chicken wings and cheese fries. I WAS LIKE «Wait, What? This place is BYOB. But what made my night was when I notice some tables had buckets of beer. There was music playing that gave this place a cool atmosphere. The crowd at nicks is very diverse and It was a good sign to see everyone enjoying themselves and laughing. I could not help but notice how new everything looked and how clean this place was. The owner was friendly and we talked for a bit afterwards. I asked the owner if it was like this all time and he said most of the time. So I walk into this place on a saturday night and it was packed. With the new renovations and new pool tables. Even though I have been here before and it was cool back then. It’s Friday today and I already know where I’m going after work. I wouldn’t want to go to a pool hall and have to use an awful cue that’s more beat up than the streets of Chicago are. Last Weekend I noticed that the owner had replaced some of the house cues with new Dufferin ones which is always good. Food menu is small, but everything was Hand Picked by the owner and I will say it’s all good. No jukebox, but there is always music on and it’s not so loud that you have to yell to say something. This place is BYOB and there’s a 7⁄ 11 just behind it so you can walk over and get more beer if you didn’t bring enough (I do that a lot.) This is an awesome place to meet OR make friends and get some solid billiards in. I live in Wicker Park so there are plenty of tables around, but none of them are anywhere near as nice as these ones… Especially the 9ft. ![]() Hot Tip: If the Nickburger is too much, they also offer the “Little Nick.” This old-school spot remains cash-only and open for dine-in and carry-out.I might as well be one of the regulars. Nick’s is family owned with Don Quaid buying the establishment from its original owners a little over 20 years ago. You’ll find a menu full of Chicago hot dogs, Italian beef, and grilled cheese. 9/21/2023 0 Comments Virtualbox usb passthroughReader Tim has suggested one such application and recounted his own experiences with it. ![]() I’ve never personally used any, which is why they’re not in the text. Note : a fourth option not explored in this article is software-based solutions. It’s not perfect by any stretch, but the licensing terms are favorable for most and it gets the job done.Īll of that said, it is entirely possible to configure Hyper-V USB passthrough inside a Hyper-V guest, even Client Hyper-V. For most everyone else, I’d say to turn your eye to a type 2 hypervisor. If you’re using the emulators in Visual Studio, you’re sort of forced into it. If true Hyper-V USB passthrough is a requirement for whatever you’ve got in mind, then Hyper-V is a poor solution. If you want more information, Microsoft has published a thorough article regarding passing through hardware on the 2016 platform that describes some of the challenges and possibilities, including configuring Hyper-V USB passthrough. But, technological feasibility is besides the point. In theory, it sounds like something that could be done. Could there be a way for a type 1 hypervisor to assign a USB port to a specific guest by doing the same thing that a type 2 does? I don’t know. Hyper-V can’t do this for Hyper-V USB passthrough because one operating system instance locking a USB port from all other operating system instances is just not how type 1 virtualization works. A type 2 hypervisor is essentially an application shim that is pretending to provide a root hardware device, which is fine because it doesn’t require the same degree of isolation as a type 1 hypervisor. They are kernels firmly entrenched within partitions. So, the same concepts apply to Hyper-V USB passthrough configuration. If you’ve ever used a type 2 hypervisor in this way, you’ll notice that they explicitly tell you that the USB device can be attached to the parent or a guest - there’s no sharing or divvying up resource access or anything of the sort. Applications have the ability to exclusively capture a USB port to prevent other applications from using it if they like this is why it’s so easily done in a type 2 hypervisor. In a type 2 hypervisor, the management operating system is installed directly to the hardware and the hypervisor is just another application that runs within it. The very sharp distinction to be made here is that Hyper-V is a type 1 hypervisor whereas the products that provide simple USB passthrough are type 2 hypervisors. The complaint typically accompanies a negative comparison to applications such as VMware Workstation and Oracle VirtualBox, which can perform USB passthrough. I often read complaints about the lack of Hyper-V USB passthrough for USB devices. This will be the USB mass storage device used for Hyper-V USB passthrough. Change the selection dot to Physical Hard Disk and then select the drive to attach from the drop-down.Remember that you cannot add any drive to a virtual IDE controller while the virtual machine is turned on, but you can add a drive to a virtual SCSI controller if the VM is off or on. Make sure that Hard Drive is selected on the right and click Add. In the target virtual machine’s properties dialog, click the virtual controller where you want to add your passthrough disk.If the Offline option is not available, the disk cannot be used as a passthrough. Ensure that the disk is visible in Disk Management.I do not have any USB drives to test this with, so my screenshots will not line up well, unfortunately. If you have problems, expect all responses from me to be, “I told you so”. However, this is a how-to article, so I will show you how to configure Hyper-V USB passthrough. ![]() I would like to reiterate that I am fundamentally opposed to permanently mounting any disk in passthrough mode. ![]() For this reason, Windows must identify your USB drive as a “Mass Storage Device” in order for it to connect in Hyper-V USB passthrough mode. As I said in the opening paragraph, only one component can communicate with a USB device, so the Windows disk subsystem brokers I/O for all USB storage devices. Hyper-V can set up most USB disk drives in Hyper-V USB passthrough mode, but it does so via Windows’ storage subsystem. How to Add Hyper-V Passthrough Support for USB Drives As a result, with Hyper-V USB passthrough, we face special difficulties with USB in virtualized environments. USB devices expect to communicate with only one subsystem or application at a time. Other hardware components present a greater challenge for virtualization because they are not shared, even among separate applications. Even on non-virtualized systems, these resources are shared. It focuses on CPU, disk, and memory because all operating systems and applications require them. One of the chief features of Hyper-V virtualization is the abstraction of the hardware, including Hyper-V USB passthrough. ![]() There’s only so much an IT admin can do to make sure each workstation is set up securely. Vulnerabilities AssessmentĪnother reason why Bitdefender is our top pick for small businesses was its vulnerabilities assessment feature. A subscription for 20 computers, for example, can protect up to six servers. This service costs extra, but it’s completely optional, so businesses can opt in or out based on their needs.įYI: With Bitdefender’s business antivirus solutions, the number of servers should account for no more than 30 percent of the total number of supported computers. As an example, they can provide help in deploying the antivirus to an existing infrastructure. In addition to antivirus protection, Kaspersky also caters to business IT needs. From what we’ve seen, Kaspersky is capable of deploying antivirus solutions to enterprises with over 1,000 workstations. The price goes up as the number of protected devices increases. The cheapest package, which covers up to 10 workstations, costs $404.20 per year. The same goes for their business solutions. Adaptable PricingĪs we noted in our page on Kaspersky’s pricing, the cost of Kaspersky products is reasonable. The scan covered not only individual workstations, but also our Linux servers and the network itself so really, there’s no place to hide for ransomware. ![]() It continuously scanned the network and blocked suspicious and unauthorized encryptions as they started to happen. That’s exactly what Kaspersky’s Anti-Cryptor feature did for us. As ransomware becomes increasingly notorious, it’s vital for business antiviruses to be able to detect malicious encryption before it can begin hijacking files. Kaspersky protected our entire office network from all kinds of digital threats, but most importantly, from ransomware. Kaspersky Antivirus Support Webpage Anti-Cryptor It’s nice to know that our IT experts are on top of things when we’re too busy testing VPNs, antivirus software, and home security devices. On our end, that meant that our workstations remained safe from malware without us having to do anything. They could start scans, manage security configurations, gather usage statistics and reports, and set up tasks remotely from their computers. However, thanks to Kaspersky, our IT team gained centralized control over every workstation’s antivirus. This kind of operating system diversity can make it hard for IT admins to deploy a universal antivirus solution. In our office, for instance, the backend developers use Linux while the rest of us use either Mac or Windows. Linux is as complex as it is powerful, which is why many businesses often use hybrid networks consisting of Linux, Windows, and Mac workstations. Sticky Password allows you to do more work and be bothered less by nagging log-ins and unfilled forms. The new Sticky Password 7 finds itself leading the pack in log-in management with synchronization across multiple devices. We are looking forward to even more expanded support in the next version. Skype, DropBox, and iTunes work well but services like Steam (a gaming app) are still absent. How big of a menu do you have? Do you have daily specials that cause you to have to shake things up every day? Are you planning on making seasonal changes to your menu? If your food prep station is too close to unsanitary areas like your sink, you may get shut down faster than you open. You have to keep health codes, safety protocols, and fire codes in mind. Your local health codes will have a huge bearing over the design of your kitchen. They’ll also have a good idea of how to design the space so it’s functional to all the cooks. They know your menu and how much space will be needed to accommodate it. You can involve all the kitchen designers you want but the truth of the matter is, nobody knows your kitchen quite like the head chef in charge. This will help you determine how much food prep and storage space you need.įor example, if you have a lengthy menu with tons of food options, you may not want to go with a small gallery restaurant kitchen layout. Make a detailed list of all the foods that you’re thinking about offering on your menu. Keep these factors in mind to help narrow down your options a little. Just make sure that you keep the hot appliances well away from the customers. Your customers will find it entertaining and it will set you apart from your competitors. Any of the layouts we mentioned can be paired with an open kitchen if you take out one of the walls. Open KitchenĪn open kitchen allows your customers to see what’s cooking behind the scenes. If you’re cooking in a food truck, however, the gallery design is the only choice you have. If you’re working with a large space then the few commercial kitchen layout options we mentioned above will suit your needs. In a gallery layout, all the equipment and prep stations are on one parameter of the kitchen. This design will keep your kitchen organized and allow you to prepare several different types of meals at once. You could have a sandwich zone, soup and salad zone, and whatever else you think you’ll need. Each activity that goes on in the kitchen has its own special section. The zone-style layout is sort of self-explanatory. This layout makes it easy for your kitchen staff to communicate with each other and allows for the head chef in charge to give orders. Many people go with a food prep station, dishwashing area, and storage area. Island-style commercial kitchens have a central meal cooking area with several other stations around the perimeter of it. This design works best if you have multiple chefs in the kitchen who are all responsible for a certain aspect of the cooking. ![]() Food prep starts on one end and is passed through the line until it’s ready to go out to the customer.
